My Simplified Skincare Routine
To some of you, the picture accompanying this post may seem contradictory. In that it looks like quite a few products for a “simplified routine” however, for me this IS pretty simple. ;) And really, I just want to talk about my TOP 3 products that I use every single day, twice a day. I do use other products occasionally, like masks and serums and hydrating sprays but I want to talk to you about how I simplified my everyday skincare routine, why I did it, and what products made the cut.
I used to fluctuate between lots of different products, constantly changing things up, and rarely sticking to the same routine twice. But as I’ve been working my way to a simpler, slower lifestyle my beauty cabinet has been a major focus for me. Constantly editing, reorganizing, simplifying. Trying again. And now, as we’re about to downsize to a much smaller home (and one with virtually no master bathroom storage), I’m finding myself being extra aggressive about what’s allowed to stay in my medicine cabinet. Thus, the three superstar products I’m about to share with you. The price point of each of these products varies widely, because for me, it’s not necessarily always about how cheap/expensive it is: I just want to know that it works. Because I’ve tried lots of stuff, I’m including a couple different options in each of the the three categories so you can make the best choice for your specific skin needs and also for you wallet! :)
Without further ado, here’s whats in my top shelf lineup:
I’ve leaned toward more aggressive cleansers in the past, but as of late, I've been gradually working my way to more gentle options. My skin is dry so it makes sense for me to use a gentle face wash, but I’m convinced we could all benefit from stepping away from all the suds in traditional cleansers, no matter your skin type. My tried and true used to be Marula Cleansing Lotion and I attribute this stuff to clearing the hormonal acne that plagued me during my pregnancy with Remi. I’ve tried so. many. different. skincare. products. So when I realized that I had been using Marula Cleansing Lotion for over a year, I felt like it deserved some kind of award! I do still recommend this cleanser to lots of people and often buy it as a gift. But towards the end of 2017 I discovered an even milder, yet super effective, micellar cleansing water at a much lower price and it has now earned it’s place as my #1 cleanser. I never thought I would cleanse my face with water and be satisfied. But it’s not just water. It’s some fancy water made up of lots of tiny micelles that attract dirt and grime without drying out your skin. It makes my skin look radiant and plump instead of dry and dull and tight. Side note: I do still like to use Glossier’s Milky Jelly to remove stubborn eye makeup and usually keep a bottle in the shower.

Bioderma Sensibio H20 micellar water ($11) *my current fave*
Glossier Milky Jelly ($18)
Alright, so the toner I use is definitely not for beginners. Unless you’re adventurous and super into skincare, and then I say go for it. It’s by the French skincare company, Biologique Recherche, and it’s called Lotion P50. The only place I’ve been able to find it available to ship in the US is Rescue Spa (I’ll provide a link below) If you Google Lotion P50, you’ll actually find quite a bit of information on it. It’s a bit of a cult product. My favorite articles on it are by Into the Gloss. I personally use the PIGM 400 version for a couple reasons: it’s nursing friendly (doesn’t contain phenol) and it targets dark spots, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation, which are some of my major skin concerns. Now, I said this stuff is not for beginners BUT if you ARE looking to start exfoliating/toning with acids, I’ve got some exciting news for you (don’t let the word acid scare you by the way, it’s not like the bad, harmful acid you’re probably imagining — check out THIS post for more info on acids in skincare). Back to the exciting news, Glossier is releasing something called Solution *very soon* and it’s basically their version of Lotion P50. It’s mean to target acne and uneven skin tone and I‘m extremely hopeful it will be out this month. Unfortunately, it’s not pregnancy/nursing friendly, so I won’t be trying it until I’m done nursing Remi. Lastly, if you’re looking for something to tone and prep your skin before applying your moisturizer, but don’t want to dive into acids? Check out Glossier’s Rosewater Face Spray!

Annnnd here’s the kicker. I got hooked on La Mer, y’all. Ugh. I splurged on the travel size of the iconic Crème de la Mer. At $85 for just half an ounce, this stuff is STEEP. And sadly for my budget, it’s truly amazing. My sister can attest, just ask her, I let her try it the other day. For anyone with chronic dry skin, it’s a total dream. So here’s the deal, I know it’s expensive, and firstly, for those wondering, yes my husband knows I ordered it 😂😅 but it WORKS. It’s infused with their signature Miracle Broth which sounds super weird but it’s some magical potion that heals your skin and restores it to it’s once newborn baby skin glory. So yeah, there’s that. I do also highly recommend Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer Rich which is way, way, way cheaper and also amazing for hydrating your skin to glowy perfection (I mean, not quite baby skin perfection, but perfection nonetheless) And I know I’m hyping Glossier a lot, but it’s not just because I’m a rep. I’m not a rep for the money, I’m a rep because I love and believe in the products. It’s the brainchild of the founders of Into the Gloss, which is a reputable beauty blog, and their products are just that legit. Speaking of, go order Boy Brow right now if you’re a Glossier newbie and you’ll see what I mean.

So there you have it, my simplified skincare routine, in a not-so-simple blog post. If you enjoyed reading this, definitely let me know! I’d love to know if this is something you guys want to see more often. I’ve been working on a Best Products of 2017 post that includes my favorite baby, mama, and beauty products and can’t wait to share it with you all. I’m thinking about doing a giveaway with it, and giving away some of my favorite things just for fun, to make January (the Monday of the year) a little less cold and dreary and a little more exciting!
